Fresh Hope – Day 13

I tell my wife that I love her every day. In fact, I tell her several times a day.

If I’m away, I call or text to say that I love her.

This love affair has gone on for more than 35 years now.

We have a little dialogue that we’ve worked on, in that each time that I say ‘I love you’, she always responds, ‘I love you more’, I then say, ‘it’s impossible… you can’t love me more than I love you’. It sometimes goes on and on.

My question is this; how do I know that I love her more than she loves me or vice versa?

It’s impossible to know, so we have to concede by saying that we love each other the same.

Is it possible to be loved more than we can love in return? In one word, YES!

There is one simple word that jumps out and settles God’s love towards us, tucked away in probably the most well known verse in the whole Bible… John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only son…”

It’s found right there, in the word SO. ‘For God SO loved that he gave…’

God didn’t just love the world as if that wasn’t enough; he SO loved the world.

His response to the world that he created, could have been, so what, who cares. But instead He not only loved us, He SO loved us.

His love for you is far beyond your love for Him.

His love is deep and wide and vast.

His love is unconditional.

His love doesn’t DEPEND on our love for Him; it simply DESIRES our love in response.

We can’t earn it… we can only receive it.

Couldn’t care less?  He couldn’t care more.

Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

SO… what are you waiting for? It’s your move.
