A line from a famous song says, “I’m gonna pack up my troubles and throw them all away.” If only it was that easy…
A lot of the time we do try to pack them up, however it’s usually temporarily, because as soon as we’re reminded of them, they come bursting out again.
An injection of faith, a great moment of inspiration, a great time of worship, time in prayer, helps us pack them away and hand them over.
That, however, is where they need to stay.
The Bible tells us to ‘cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you’ (Psalm 55:22). And ‘cast all your anxiety on Him for He cares for you’ (1 Peter 5:7).
Nowhere in those verses does it suggest we take it back again.
I like to think of it like packing my suitcase of all my worries, fears, concerns and problems and handing it to Jesus.
Don’t see it like that suitcase check-in at the airport, where you hand it over for a few hours, but then you go and pick it back up again.
Today why not put your fear in and take away faith in an Almighty God?
Why not put your doubts in and take home confidence in Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all you can ask or think?
Why not put your troubles in and take home His peace?
Why not put your worries and concerns in and take home His hope for a brighter future and a better tomorrow?
Don’t be tempted to pick your luggage back up. Leave it with the one who cares for you, the One who can help you.
Happy Saturday, with love
