My journey of trusting God started many years ago…
I had little money, but I did have a little faith.
I was 21 and living in student accommodation in Christchurch, Dorset.
On one particular evening, I had planned to go by myself to a Gospel concert in Bournemouth; it would take every bit of money that I possessed to buy the ticket.
As I drove my old, beat-up car onto the carpark of the concert hall, I saw the biggest yellow sign you could imagine. It stated that anyone parking without a ticket would have their car clamped and towed away.
The problem was, I only had enough money for the concert…
I sat there for a few minutes mulling over in my mind the scenario of what might happen that night.
I could ignore the sign and go to the concert, only to find that my car had been towed away, or I could pay to park and have no money to get into the concert… pointless exercise I thought.
‘What would faith do?’, I asked myself.
‘What would be the right thing to do?’, I asked myself.
Well, I decided that I should first pay to park the car and then have complete faith in God to stand in the concert ticket queue without any money to buy one.
FEAR LOOKS… FAITH LEAPS
As I stood in the long line of people, I started to play out, once again, what might happen when I get to the ticket kiosk.
My natural mind told me to stop being so stupid and go home. However, my simple trust in God convinced me to stay put.
All was well until I got within three people from the ticket kiosk.
“What now?” I prayed anxiously.
My little faith was being tested to its limits and now there were just two people in front of me; I stood my ground, just as if I had all the money in the world.
30 seconds to go…
…When all of a sudden, a side-stage door flew open and a man came bustling out, shouting, “Does anyone need a ticket?”
I simply reached out my hand and said, “Yes please,” trying not to look desperate. And as I turned back around, I was at the front of the queue and heard the lady in the kiosk say, “Ticket please, sir.” I simply handed it over and walked straight in.
I can’t remember anything about the concert, but I’ve never forgotten one of my first experiences of simply trusting God.
Never trusted God before? Start today by trusting Him with something simple and just watch what happens.
Faith is like a muscle, it needs to be worked in order for it to grow strong.
Listen to the words of Jesus… “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
