Fresh Hope – Day 179

Criticism will either crush you or energize you.

As soon after I’ve been criticised, I simply get alone and ask myself one simple question…’what should I learn from what has just been said about me?’

My thinking is this: whatever truth I gain from the conversation can be used to help me to become a better person.

The same wind that threatens the chicken lifts the wings of the eagle above the storm.

If you’re facing criticism today, consider these things carefully…

– Is it constructive or destructive?

– Is is gentle or judgemental ?

– Is it to make me look bad and my critics look good?

– Is it done discreetly┬áin private or publicly, in order to damage my reputation?

Sometimes, you just have to smile through criticism, as you discern the spirit behind the words.

It’s hard for any of us to receive criticism, so keep your attitude toward your critic in check. Remember, bitterness will do more to damage you than any criticism levelled against you would ever do.

If you’re facing criticism today, take another look at how Jesus handled it, and ask Him to help you to do the same.

1 Peter 2:23 ‘When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.’
