Fresh Hope – Day 222

When you hear the name David Beckham, you think football.

When you hear the name Andy Murray, you think tennis.

When you hear the name George Clooney, you think good looking actor, or some of you ladies may have once thought future husband!

When people hear your name, what do they think?

What do they associate your name with?

What describes you? Loyal, trustworthy, faithful, generous? Or is it gossip, lazy, liar, cheat?

For many people, little attention is given to their character, meaning that they don’t think about the importance of the way that they come across or act.

More time is spent on looking good than in being good and more time is spent wanting to gain money rather than wanting to gain a good name.

The power of the words of Solomon are still as meaningful today as when written…

Proverbs 22:1 ‘A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.’

Getting yourself a good name is not just about becoming known as a nice or good person, it’s much more than that. It’s about being a person of great character so that when you want to step out and do something significant with your life, you will be a treated as a serious contender, someone that’s credible and believable, because your character has already spoken for you.

People will only buy into your life if they can see that you are a person of transparency and integrity.

When talking to others about your faith, one of the first unsaid things that will come into focus for them will be, ‘does your life add up?’ In other words, are you walking the talk or are you talking the Jesus talk, but walking the devils walk?

One of the most overlooked aspects that adds weight to a person’s life is found in Luke 16:10-12.

‘Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?

Don’t keep blaming others for not trusting you – it’s not their problem, they are just saying what they see.

Make it your ambition in life to get yourself a good name…it’s worth more than all the money in the world.

Proverbs 22:1 ‘A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.’
