Fresh Hope – Day 264

It was my wife’s birthday earlier this week.

We love to celebrate birthdays in our house, but I have to admit that I’m not very good at buying that amazing surprise gift.

If I’m honest, it usually works like this…Gillian sees something that she likes, tells me about it, and then I go and buy it. I take it home in a carrier bag so that she won’t see it, wrap it up and give it to her on the day. Hardly a surprise.

I have been known to really push the boat out and get her something unexpected, but then I usually end up taking it back as the wrong size, style or completely unwanted!

Whatever the case may be with the presents, she knows that it is always my intention to demonstrate my love towards her.

It’s quite possible today to wake up feeling very alone and unloved even though you may have many friends.

Maybe your birthdays have long since been forgotten by others or maybe you’re at an age where you prefer to forget them yourself.

The great news is this: it’s not just on specials that God loves you – every day His love remains the same and is the only true constant in our lives.

God’s unconditional love means that He doesn’t find it hard to love you right now either, no matter what you have done; He continually pours His grace into your life day-by-day.

Why not think on this verse during today until it’s ingrained within you?

1 John 3:1 ‘See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!’

I just love the word ‘lavished’ – it simply means generous and extravagant and is the very word God chooses to reveal the extent of His love towards you.

You are loved…today and everyday.

A daily devotion for a better way of living.
