‘I am H.A.P.P.Y
I am H.A.P.P.Y
I know I am, I’m sure I am,
Remember that song?
It’s wonderful to know that you’re happy and to be sure that you are. But happiness is based on happenings…
‘The sun is shining, I feel happy…’
‘The kids are behaving, I feel happy…’
‘We had my favourite dinner, I feel happy…’
‘I won that contract from work, I feel happy…’
‘I had a great weekend… I feel happy.’
The problem with that is, when you don’t have a great weekend, or when things don’t go your way, or the sun isn’t shining (which is often in England) then you may not.
Happenings aren’t always great. So what should be our story instead?
When you have a relationship with God, the way you feel shouldn’t depend on happenings, but something far greater. It’s called JOY.
Joy comes from within, not without.
That wonderful knowledge that all is well, even though it seems like it isn’t.
Joy comes from knowing God and that He has a great purpose for my life.
Don’t let your life or your state of mind or your face depend on happenings. Instead, know that wonderful joy in your heart that only God can give.
Joy each day will come through your relationship with God and your prayer life. Talking with Him and allowing Him to speak to you. Sharing your thoughts and concerns, and letting Him replace them with His peace.
I learnt this simple illustration many years ago
J = Jesus
O = others
Y = yourself.
It’s still accurate today.
Here’s a great verse from 1 Thessalonians 5.
‘Always be joyful, never stop praying and be thankful in all circumstances, because THIS is God’s will for your life.’
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
