One of my favourite verses in all the Bible is Romans 8:1 and it says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” In other words, when you accept Jesus into your life, condemnation is eliminated from the equation.
I was contemplating this verse recently and I realised how even though I believe in Jesus and have accepted Him, condemnation is still a very real thing to me…Now, does that mean that Romans 8:1 is incorrect? No. It simply means that my feelings still want to run the show.
‘Go with your feelings’ or ‘Follow your heart’ has to be some of the dumbest advice we’ve ever received. Why? Because there is an understanding that is deeper than our feelings and there is a reality that’s greater than our heart, and His name is Jesus.
And in those moments of feeling unworthy, and when experiencing guilt, shame or condemnation, you have to choose to speak to your feelings as opposed to letting them speak to you, and remind them that Jesus has already removed such things from my life.
Today, lean into the Word of God and believe what it says about you instead of tuning your ear to what incorrect feelings would want to say about you. Understand that you are no longer seen for who you are, but for who Jesus is – perfect and pleasing in the sight of God.
I pray you’ll be encouraged by that today.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
