Luther Vandross sang a song that went like this…’if you’re not with the one you love, love the one you’re with.’
I believe this to be great advice for living a contented life.
It’s not about settling for second best, but thoroughly making the most of your current situation and blessings.
An example would go like this: I am not a tall man, so I could spend my life dreaming and thinking how great it would be if I was tall. This advice from Mr Vandross says ‘if you’re not the height you want, want the height you are!’
The truth is, at the end of the day, I will not grow so much as a millimetre by wanting to, so if I can’t beat them join them, so I make a decision to love the height I am.
I’m less likely to get back problems, I get extra leg room on planes and I rarely bang my head on low doorways!
It may sound a silly example, but I hope you get the idea; apply it to all areas of life and you will start celebrating with gratitude what you do have, instead of living with the frustration of feeling hard done by.
God has made us all different and unique and you could waste so much emotion on looking and comparing yourself with others, but stop it and celebrate exactly the unique characters and qualities God put into you!
You are the best you!
There is nothing so precious as people and if you’re reading this then you are one and priceless to God!
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
