I’ve been reading a book recently called ‘Leadership Axioms’ by a man named Bill Hybels. There is a chapter in there which I love entitled ‘Values Need Heat’. The premise behind this teaching is that whatever values you heat up in your organisation will eventually define your culture.
Whether it be in your school, or at home or in your workplace, you are constantly playing a part in creating a certain kind of culture. The question is: what kind of culture do you want to create?
Do you want your organisation to be known for its generosity? Then you must make much of generosity. Do you want your home to be a place of peace? Then celebrate those who play a part in cultivating that culture. Whatever you give power to, you’re ultimately giving permission for…
Often when people come to our church, they point out how friendly our staff and volunteers are. People are overwhelmed by the genuine, kind-hearted nature of our teams. There’s no coincidence that this is the case. Why? Because our Pastors make much of friendliness. This is a value that they hold highly. And as a matter of fact, they’re the most friendly people you could wish to meet.
Your home or your organisation will never get a value so right unless the leader diligently heats it up.
Today, decide what values you want your life and the lives of those around you to be founded upon, and then make much of those values, heat them up, and watch how they define the culture that you’re creating.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
