I’ve been taught many times that the first rule of leadership is self-leadership. You see, you cannot lead others if you can’t firstly lead yourself.
I wonder if you’ve ever heard people complain about certain areas in their lives. For instance, their level of fitness. They tell their trainer that they aren’t losing weight, their muscles aren’t getting any bigger and that there has been no great improvement in their level of fitness.
Chances are, that person is looking for the trainer to take responsibility for their results as opposed to themselves. They become reliant on that hour long session to get them to where they need to be, yet fail to realise that the majority of their time is spent away from those that they have become reliant upon.
In order to be successful in any area, you must understand that there is only one person responsible for the outcome of your life, and that person is you!
Over the last few years, I’ve had the pleasure of being able to teach people how to play the drums. One of the things that I remind each person of often is that I am only partly responsible for their growth and improvement. “What you do outside of this lesson is what counts most…you must take responsibility for you.”
Today, make a decision to take ownership of your life. In your health, your achievements, your productivity, your finance, your feelings, in everything, understanding that one day, you will be made accountable for you, so choose to take full responsibility for your life from this moment forth.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
