Only go to work today if you feel like it.
Don’t go if you have a headache, it’s raining, or you haven’t had to tell the kids off.
Stay at home if you don’t like everyone at work and the stars didn’t line up the night before.
If the boss doesn’t appreciate you, and the sun isn’t shining, and it’s inconvenient, just go back to bed.
Now…phone the boss and give him any of the above as your excuse as to why you’re not coming to work today, knowing that he will completely understand – not.
The Bible records these words for us…
Malachi 1:8, 13-14 When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘When you bring injured, lame or diseased animals and offer them as sacrifices, should I accept them from your hands?’ says the Lord. ‘Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord. For I am a great king,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and my name is to be feared among the nations.
Everyday we get up to go to work, knowing that our earthly boss is expecting us to be there, and yet when it comes to God we make such lame excuses as to why we can’t give Him our best, that he says back to us, ‘try telling that to your boss’ – exactly!
Why do we think that God deserves anything less than the very best and yet we give him our daily leftovers and that which costs us nothing?
The next time you promise God that you’ll go anywhere for Him and don’t turn up, the next time that you pledge something and then retract it, the next time you say that you commit to something and then never see it through, ask yourself ‘why do I do that to God and would never do that even to my earthly boss?’
Give God your very best and your all today.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
