There’s a bible story found in Luke 6 where Jesus describes for us two types of people. The first being someone who hears God’s Word and then puts it into practice. Jesus likens this person to someone who builds their life upon a strong foundation.
The second type of person described in this story is someone who hears the Word of God but does nothing with it. He likens this type of person to someone who builds their life upon the sand. The moment the storm comes, it collapses and its destruction is complete.
I don’t know about you, but I find it’s so easy to read the Bible, close the cover and then forget everything you’ve just read… Or maybe you read Fresh Hope every morning out of daily routine, but you don’t allow it to change your day at all. We miss the most important part – taking what you hear and doing something with it!
The problem with living life like this, is that whenever a difficult circumstance arises, because it will, you have no strength to draw from because everything you’ve heard and everything you’ve learnt has gone in one ear and out the other.
It’s interesting how Jesus makes it clear that both people faced storms, however they experienced two totally different outcomes… Why? Because one of them had built his life upon a strong foundation and, recalling what he had heard, he utilised it to enable him to stand through the storm.
I want to encourage you today, be like the first man described in this bible story. The one who hears the Word and builds his life upon it. Will he still bend? Yes, but he won’t break.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
