Sometimes our lives can be like the weather, never quite sure what’s going to happen next. One day, we’re sun bathing on a beach in Cornwall, the next week it’s snowing! Welcome to England.
It can create unrest in our lives. Should we be putting away the winter clothes, or buying more jumpers?
Our spiritual lives can follow this pattern. One day you’re excited about God and trusting Him, the next day you’ve had some bad news and you never want to talk to God again!
In the book of Matthew, there is a story of a ‘Pearl of great price’ that I believe can help straighten, simplify and make sense of our lives.
It reads: “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
This paints a great picture of a man who found something so great he stopped just trading in pearls for what he could gain but sold his shop and put all his eggs in the one basket!
Either Jesus died for our sins and defeated all power and authorities or he didn’t! Jesus is the way the truth and the life or he isn’t! God so loved the world that He gave his only son or he didn’t!
We often live like ever-changing weather between two camps saying, ‘yes he is all sufficient…but I still choose to be negative and live with anxiety about my needs!’
No matter how things may look today, I encourage you to make a decision not to worry, not to look elsewhere and not to be tempted to put a few eggs in another basket! He is sufficient for all your needs.
Jesus is the pearl of great price and will not let you down!
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
