As we enjoy a few unusually warm summer days here in the UK, we are being told to keep out of the sun or a least cover ourselves with sunscreen -sound advice.
Yet, on the other side of that very same coin are the wonderful known properties that the sun carries to our bodies when exposed to its rays; not least of all vitamin D, which gives us healthy and strong bones.
Apparently the part of the body that receives the most vitamin D when exposed to sunlight is the inside of our arms.
Think about it and try it out yourself…there is only one way to expose the insides of your arms and that is to turn your hands upwards whilst extending your arms outwards.
This simple posture helps us to appreciate the value of placing ourselves in a receiving mode.
Think about how we receive a birthday gift or even a small child that’s running towards us to be loved – it’s always with extended arms and open hands.
What a great lesson for us all today in receiving from God.
You don’t have to be inside a church to lift your hands in worship, you can do it now right where you are and at any time of the day. It simply sends a message to God that says ‘I’m open to receive and that I’m wanting to receive.’
It also says ‘I’m open to give and that I’m wanting to give’. No one has ever given anything with hands turned down or in their pockets.
Send a signal to God today that you are humble enough to receive all that He has for you, and that you are humble enough to release from your hands anything that He may instruct you to today.
Psalm 28:1-2 To you, Lord, I call; you are my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I shall be like those who go down to the pit. Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands towards your Most Holy Place.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
