Let’s talk today about the significance of serving.
Many years ago, I trained to be a silver service waiter; it’s not something that you see much of today, apart from in some exclusive restaurants and even then it’s pretty rare. I may have left that kind of serving behind years ago, but I’ve tried since then, to devote my life to serving others. There is something very special and very significant about serving others.
When we look at Jesus’ life, we see that He lived His entire life with other people in mind – He was always teaching, healing, leading and even correcting, so that people’s lives would be lifted to a higher level. Jesus was the ultimate example of serving.
Serving is simply giving of yourself to make life better for someone else. If we want to be like Jesus, serving will be a way of life for us.
It all starts with having an attitude and perspective on life that looks for opportunities to be a blessing – it always asks: what can I do to make a difference for someone else?
Being part of a life giving church is fundamental in that it gives us opportunity to become part of a serving community. Being available and having a willing heart is all it takes.
It’s a spiritual principle that when we sow good things, we’ll reap the benefits in our own lives too.
Matthew 20:28 ‘…just as the Son of Man (Jesus) did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
