I well remember the feelings that overwhelmed me when our children were very small.
I’d come home some days, after being the Pastor of the church for not too long, feeling like I’d been beaten up by people’s problems and problem people.
As I walked through the door, the warmth of the welcome committee would be waiting as my wife would kiss me and the children jump into my arms. They knew nothing of the day that I’d had or of the things that I was facing, they just knew it was a safe place to be in Daddy’s presence.
As good as that was for them, the feelings I’m describing are the ones that I too felt when being surrounded and welcomed by pure love that I knew couldn’t hurt me.
Those hugs and kisses sometimes would be my salvation as I would face yet another difficult day that wanted to take me down.
There was something about those warm embraces that melted my soul and made things feel alright – even when I knew they were far from it.
In Psalm 131, it describes how we today, no matter what we’re facing, can bring peace to our very soul by receiving the warm embrace of a Heavenly Father.
Psalm 131:2 …I have calmed and quietened myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.
The message Bible translates it like this:
‘I’ve kept my feet on the ground, I’ve cultivated a quiet heart. Like a baby content in its mother’s arms, my soul is a baby content’.
In order to know what that feels like, you need to re-order your life so that you spend time with God, knowing His warm embrace and hearing His whisper that no matter what is going on around you, all is well with your soul.
Cuddle up today.
Feel the warmth of His love.
Let Him melt your heart.
All is well again.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
