Happy new year!
Today is that magic day where you hope beyond hope that 2017 will turn out to be a good one, or if not a good one, at least not so bad as last year.
Yet in reality, New Year’s Day has no such special power to make the next 12 months any better or worse than the previous 365 days.
Happiness cannot come from a new year in and of itself, but rather from the decisions we make and the directions we take.
If you continue to make unwise, unhealthy, ungodly decisions then I can tell exactly how your year is going to turn out.
Take the wrong directions in life that are contrary to your values, beliefs and convictions, and you can pretty much forecast what your new year will hold.
The blessings contained in the new year are never down to chance fait or luck, as some would suggest, but down to applying wisdom to our lives and living in a way that’s right.
Over the next 24 hours, before its ‘business as usual’ take a little more time to refresh, but more so use the time to reflect.
How I am going to live this year that’s different to 2016?
What vision do I have for my life?
What am I unhappy with…is there anything that I can do about it?
What unfulfilled dream do I have that’s bigger than me?
Where does God feature in my life?
Don’t fall for making New Years resolutions, they don’t work, instead make a realistic plan or set a goal that you can live by each day.
If you’re overweight for example (which most of us are at this time of the year) don’t make a resolution to be thin, instead make a plan to lose just a pound a week and see how that weight just starts to go.
The greatest and most important decision you can make today is to place God at the top of your priorities. Allowing Him to take first place brings with it unbelievable rewards and blessings, in fact when you put Him first, He will add to your life all the things that you could have only ever dreamt about in 2016.
As we embark on 2017 together, may I take this opportunity of praying for you Gods richest blessings for you and your family.
Have a happy and blessed new year.
