As we start this brand new year, and for most today, a brand new working week, it won’t take too long for that Christmas spirit to take a back seat and our focus to be drawn towards the never ending cycle of bad news that grips our world each day that we wake.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful, yet unrealistic to hope that 2017 would be somewhat different to previous years, in that we would once and for all find World peace.
It’s possible that you could be one the many that are always fearing what is going to happen to you or one of your own family members at any given time. Maybe your mind right now is totally consumed with a tragedy that may well come close to you, so much so that you have forgotten how to live in the freedom that Jesus has paid for you to experience.
2017 is the year to live free from fear; not that we shouldn’t be cautious or be wise about where we go and don’t go, but God wants you to know and feel His protection at all times, in fact, even His angels are assigned to your life specifically to watch over you.
I wonder if today your biggest enemy is your inner- me and you too like Job in the Bible have this to say…
Job 3:25-26 ‘What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me. I have no peace, no quietness; I have no rest, but only turmoil.’
Be careful as you approach this year to not keep almost wishing things on yourself so that when they do happen, you simply say, ‘I told you they would!’
There is a very serious side to life, and I’m not suggesting that we should all just be totally flippant about what’s going on around us, but the woman described by Solomon in the book of Proverbd gets my vote any day…
Proverbs 31:25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
Why not today, set your focus on all the good things that God has in store for your life and begin to trust Him with the wonderful new year that He has blessed you with?
Are you allowing fearful thoughts to rob you already this year? Then make this verse your own as you travel into today.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.
