As we journey through this time of prayer and fasting, I want to encourage you with these few thoughts that will help you. As a Christian, the Holy Spirit lives within us. The Bible refers to the Holy Spirit as a fountain of life within us.
We however, are responsible for the upkeep of that Fountain.
When you go to church, someone may have prepared a great meal for you (the word, the service, the worship) but it’s your responsibility to drink for yourself.
When you spend time in God’s presence, when you pray, when you fast, when you read His Word, when you worship, all those things will replenish the fountain within you.
Think of it like this: a camel is an animal that has a built-in reserve, so that when he is in a dry and dark place he can call on the reserve that is in him and drink. See this time of prayer and fasting as a time of building up your reserve, so that when you hit a time of dryness or a dark place (and we all do from time to time) you can call on the reserve within you to get you through.
God has designed that camel to still drink even in the driest of conditions, and God has designed you and provided you with a fountain of life within you so that you can overflow and call on that reserve whenever it is needed.
The camel will only be able to drink from his reserve, if he has taken the time to drink when he was at the place of water.
During these days draw close to God, drink plenty and let that fountain inside of you flow out in the coming days.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
