Romans 5:8 gives us a window into exactly how God loves people. In a matter of one verse we see the entire gospel (the good news of Jesus) on display.
The apostle Paul writes, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
The word I want to focus on contained within that verse is the word ‘died’. For those of you who are great students of the English language, and for the rest of us who just use Google, you will know that the word ‘died’ is a verb (a doing/action word).
I want us to notice how at the very centre of the demonstration of God’s love is action.
The Bible does not record that God demonstrates His love by telling us that He loves us, but by showing us He loves us.
You see, love cannot only be spoken, it has to be shown. And the way God’s love was shown was through sacrifice.
Now God already made the ultimate sacrifice by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross so that we don’t have to, but you and I have the opportunity to be sacrificial in someway on a daily basis…
Maybe it’s your time, or your talents, or your resource that you can sacrifice today. Whatever it may be, I want to encourage you to let your love lead to action.
Today, don’t just tell the people in your world that you love them, but do something to demonstrate that love.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
