If you’ve ever been to the gym before, you’ll know what I mean when I say it can be one of the most discouraging places to visit. The reason being is that you only have to walk through the front door to be met by someone whose right bicep is the size of your right thigh.
Typically, our first reaction is then to want to walk back out the door saying, ‘what’s the point?!’
I’ll be the first to say that I often allow other people’s journey to discourage my own. I see where they’re at, whether it be on their journey of fitness, or even on their journey of faith, and I become intimidated by where they find themselves in comparison to where I find myself.
But instead of allowing other people’s journey to intimidate us, why don’t we allow it to inspire us?
Let’s realise that they were once that person walking through the front door for the first time, overwhelmed by what they saw, but instead of turning around, they kept on coming back…
They decided to get around those who were further down the road than they, ask questions, learn from them, and believe that one day, they too could get to where they want to be.
Today, don’t resent nor covet what stage of the journey somebody else finds themselves at, but with a righteous contentment, be grateful for where you are, and also possess an eager desire to keep moving forward to be where God wants you to be.
Life was not designed to be a journey that we race in against one another, but one that we embark on together.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
