Psalm 27:4 – ‘One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in his temple’.
David’s heart and affection was fixed solely on God. After removing Saul, God made David king. He testified concerning David saying, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do’” (Acts 13:22).
What an amazing thing for God to say of you! The heart of David should be the pursuit of our lives. God is looking for people who are after His heart. Whose affections are fixed on “one thing” – wholly seeking Him.
A mind and heart that is not on one thing is divided. Division of mind and heart is a life of confusion, delayed growth and unstable ground. Philippians 1:8 says, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways”.
Racehorses are often given blinders – for the purpose of keeping them focused when racing round a racecourse.
Blinders keep the horse’s eye focused on what is ahead, rather than what is at the side or behind. Likewise, as we run our race we need to put blinders on our heart and “fix our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2). We cannot have a fixed focus on multiple things if we are running for the win. Matthew 6:24 says, “…no one can have two masters”.
When we are confused as to where to fix our affection and focus, God simplifies things – ‘…seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you’ Matthew 6:33.
Mark 3:25 “If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
