We have a Christmas tree in our front garden, this year it has grown so much, it really is beautiful. Each December we cover it in lights and make it even more so.
After the recent heavy snow fall of the last few days, the tree got absolutely covered, so much so, that the snow was weighing down so heavily on its branches and even the bright lights on them were entirely covered.
Today I decided to take the snow shovel and ‘knock off’ the snow.
What a shame, I thought, this tree is being weighed down and burdened with snow, that may look pretty, yet is probably going to damage it long term.
As I started to ‘free’ the tree of the heaviness, I thought about our own lives and how we let stuff weigh us down.
If you don’t do something about that weight, it will eventually affect you and will probably damage you long-term.
Sometimes we don’t even realise that things are weighing us down.
If we fail to deal with things as they come, then eventually you’ll be covered under a great pile.
The lowest branches of the Christmas tree, the largest ones, were so buried under the few feet of snow, that I physically had to lift them free of the drifts.
Sometimes you need a little help to lift burdens, that’s where Jesus comes in. The Bible tells me He is the great burden lifter.
You can come to Him today, wherever you are, He is only a prayer away. He is the one who can lift your burdens and set you free.
And like my tree, you’ll be free again to shine brightly and be all you were created to be.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
