His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:21
To steward means ‘to manage’ or ‘look after’.
In the Parable of the Loaned Money, Jesus tells of talents that were divided among servants by a master. Out of fear, one servant hid his talents. He didn’t use them for anything, he just buried them, and let them safely sit. The other servant managed his talents and sought growth and fruitfulness from what he was given. This was also the servant who was given more again as he proved to steward what he was first given well.
There is a responsibility that comes when we are blessed with resources. Resources may be money, time, gifts, abilities or knowledge. God wants us to use these things, manage them well and seek to see fruitfulness from then.
A baby isn’t enrolled into university at birth. It is expected that they will learn and grow and master many levels of education before they graduate to the next challenge. Likewise, become a master of stewarding what you have now. No matter how small or big we feel our portion is, stop comparing and simply do your best today, until God moves you onto the next.
See Matthew 25:14-30 as an encouragement that you do have something to give, and like all good parents, God has given us His children responsibility to take ownership over our resources, before we move onto bigger and better!
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
