I’m not the greatest example of a person that likes a good wardrobe clear out, but neither am I a hoarder – somewhere in between.
I have to admit that there is something really freeing when letting things go out of your life. At the same time, I can’t help but feel that I should at least hold onto that item for just one last season, to see if I will wear it again. Truth is…”just let it go now Mark!”
I try to place my under-used ‘good stuff’ in the right hands, hoping to be a blessing to a struggling person that may not be in a position right now to get a new jacket, top or shirt.
There’s hardly a time that I’ve done this, that I privately get the recipient of their new stuff walking up to me and I’m left thinking ‘how come that never looked so good on me?’
Our youngest son is the king of clear-out. He no sooner has a new tee shirt, than he then donates his slightly used one to someone else. He probably rotates all his clothes on a monthly basis and his wardrobe is a sight to behold. Everything in its rightful place, with no room for stuff that he’s moved on from – that has long since gone to a new home.
Clothing is like the gifts that we may possess and use for a time. We can be highly gifted and used in a certain area, but then we start feeling tired and frustrated and wonder why. Could it be that God wants you to reflect in that moment on what you have been doing for the last few years, which in turn leads us to look at being used in other areas with greater effectiveness?
If you’ve ‘worn’ the gift that you’ve had for a few years and you’ve started to grow out of it, isn’t it time to find the right fit of person to pass it on to, in order that you can be fulfilled again in another area?
Just like a person being complimented on wearing that gorgeous jacket that you passed on to them, so it is with your life and the gifts entrusted to you for a time. Don’t be afraid to pass them on and see someone else take them to a whole new level with a greater passion. At the right time it will suit them more than it’s suiting you right now.
While I’m holding onto stuff that no longer is my fit, I’m actually stopping someone else being blessed too.
Take stock of your life today.
Pass on the things that you no longer are usefully using anymore and let others flourish in them.
Make room for that new set of clothes that God is waiting for you to try on.
Wear the bigger jacket today.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 MSG
‘God’s various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various ministries are carried out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various expressions of power are in action everywhere; but God himself is behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits.
All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful: wise counsel, clear understanding simple trust, healing the sick, miraculous acts proclamation, distinguishing between spirits, tongues, interpretation of tongues. All these gifts have a common origin, but are handed out one by one by the one Spirit of God. He decides who gets what, and when.’
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
