Psalm 16:5, ‘Lord, I have chosen you alone as my inheritance. You are my prize, my pleasure, and my portion. I leave my destiny and its timing in your hands.’

There’s nothing worse than a song that’s out of time. What makes a piece of music beautiful is the careful arrangement of notes – sequenced in perfect order and timing.

Each of our lives are like a piece of music. Like every song has a different time score, a different rhythm and melody to another, so do our lives. Yet we compare the tune and timing of our life to the timings of the people around us. The song of your life was never intended to be the same as the person next to you. Trust the timing of your own life.

Why can you trust the timing of your life? Because God composed your song. The pauses, the silent moments, the highs, the lows, the crescendos and decrescendos – He wrote it all in perfect timing. He is the ultimate composer and conductor. His timing never out.

The book of Ecclesiastes starts off with ‘“Meaningless! Everything is meaningless!” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). The original word for ‘meaningless’ is ‘hevel’ which translates literally to ‘smoke’ or ‘vapour’. In other words, life is fleeting. It vanishes. It is uncertain and sometimes confusing, like trying to catch smoke, BUT in the same book, Solomon in all his wisdom also writes, ‘So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun’ (Ecclesiastes 8:15). Solomon is stating that we don’t have control over the seasons of life, there are troubles, yet even IN the troubles, enjoy life! Don’t wait for the song to end.

You can’t skip the low notes, and only ride the high. When you want the season you are in to end, when you are waiting for that spouse or baby. When you’e wondering why others are finding success and freedom, while you’re still waiting, remember that a pause, a silence, a low, is an important element in your life’s song. The tune will continue in perfect timing and at the end of it all, you will have a beautiful piece.
