When I was younger, I didn’t want to get married. I was worried that it wouldn’t work out and I’d be left to pick up the pieces. I thought I was being cautious, even wise, avoiding commitment. But I’ve since realised I was actually just afraid.
Sometimes we tell ourselves we’re being wise, cautious prayerful… but we’re actually just living in fear. Making decisions about your future based on what could go wrong isn’t wisdom – it is putting fear in the driver’s seat of your life. Marriage is risky. Having a family is risky. LOVE is risky. But I don’t want to ever miss out because I’m bullet-proofing my life from everything – including happiness. Today, my prayer for you and for me is never to hide behind fear and call it wisdom.
