I went to the gym early this morning. I didn’t want to get up and I didn’t want to exercise, but I am determined to do whatever it takes to keep this body as fit and healthy as is humanly possible. When I look around at others in the gym, it’s very easy to lose heart, but I choose instead to be inspired by those that are younger and fitter than I am in order to get myself into shape.
I have to say to myself, ‘Mark…you may not be where you want to be, but you are not where you used to be.’
Don’t give up! In much the same way in your relationship with Jesus, you’re closer than you think to becoming the person that God wants you to be. You WILL make it through this difficult season and come out stronger. The prison bars that you have erected for yourself are only real in your mind and God will give you the strength and wisdom to take them down. He wants to set you free from the attitudes that have held you back for so long, and release you to live in your full potential.
Beginning is the hardest part, but after the first step, it gets easier. But watch out, those old attitudes have a way of knocking on your door and demanding that they are let back in. Resist them and they will soon get the message.
You can always tell when you’re on the road to success — it’s uphill all the way. So be patient. It will take time to get there, but anything worthwhile is worth waiting for. Right?
James 1:2-5 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
