Who do you love most fiercely, most protectively, most desperately here on earth? What would you do for them? Know that it’s a mere fraction, nearly immeasurable of what God would do for you.
Regardless of how beautifully or how imperfectly your earthly father showed his love to you, your heavenly Father’s love is utterly boundless. Rest in that thought a moment. There is nothing you can do to change how he feels about you. Nothing!
We spend so much time trying to make ourselves more lovable, giving out our very best, being there for pretty much everyone. It’s easy to forget we are already perfectly loved. Our father loves us more than we can imagine and He would do anything for us.
Matthew 18:12-13 tells us “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off”.
That’s how much God loves each one of us. It almost seems unfair that he would leave the ninety – nine to find that one lost sheep until that one sheep is you.
I love the parable of the prodigal son found in Luke 15:11–32. The son had been dishonouring to his father and had left home but eventually decided to return even before the son reaches home, the father is watching and waiting. Then, when he sees his son approaching, the father with immense joy gathers up his best robes and dashes out to greet his missing child with hugs and kisses. His wayward child, who was dead and is now alive, was lost and now is found!
Like the prodigal son, we have all made foolish mistakes, rejected and dishonoured our Father and fallen short. No matter what we have done, He awaits us with arms wide open and just wants to shower us with His love and blessings. That is the unconditional Love of God that is available to all of us.
