Imagine if someone had the money and technology to go back in time to the dawn of civilisation and leave a Ferrari as a secret surprise for someone outside their cave? I know random!
They would be truly amazed. The materials, the colours and design! They would never have seen anything like it. But after a while, the novelty would wear off and they would struggle to work out what exactly the point of it is? What should they do with it? Maybe they would use it as a storage facility?
They would never in a million years (well 6 thousand at least) realise just what the Ferrari could do! Never guessing there’s an internal combustion engine that could propel the car to speeds of 200 miles per hour!
This is a great picture of our lives and the difficulty in grasping just how amazing we are and the possibilities.
Society is more and more confused, they know the Ferrari (life) is amazing but just can’t quite work out what it’s for? Where did it came from and where is it going? So they start trying to utilise it completely incorrectly, like a caveman using a Ferrari as a storage unit or glorified caravan, the world has watered life down to a series of random events over billions of years!
It is vital we grasp there is a design to us that is to glorify God! Here are 3 areas to help us to use our Ferrari as intended:
Owner’s manual – knowledge
The caveman has no knowledge about the car. Ignorance leads him to believe that millions of years of high pressure on natural materials has produced the car. We must regularly read the owner’s manual to our lives – the Bible!
Ephesians 2:10 | NIV
We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Fuel – The Holy Spirit
Even if cavemen knew the truth about the car, they haven’t got fuel! We were created to run on the fuel of the Holy Spirit!
John 3:5 | NIV
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”
Race track – the Church
Cavemen had no roads. The environment we were created to live in is with people. The Church is God’s design for us to do life together and make the most of this amazing life.
Hebrews 10:24-25 | NIV
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
You are amazing! Believe it, take responsibility for it and make the most of this ‘once in a life time’ opportunity we have been given!
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
