Fresh Hope – 22nd August 2019

When you become a Christian, you don’t kiss goodbye to your brains. How you steward your mind  as a Christian is vital.

Your mind is most healthy when in alignment with the word of God.

Your mind should be daily renewed into the reality and truth of who you have become in Christ.

‘… Be transformed by the renewing of your mind’ (Romans 12:2). This scripture is proof that what you think is directly linked to how you behave. Want to change your life? It doesn’t start with behaviour and self-modification – it starts with what you believe in your head!

When your mind is fed on the word of God, embedded with scripture and truth, it is very easy to pick up on lies. Look at airport security. When you walk through the arch, if you are carrying metal, it will trigger off. Something illegal has approached a boundary. Should a weapon pass, harm could be done. The arch is sensitive to anything illegitimate and picks up on what should not be passed through.

A renewed mind, will quickly detect a lie when it attempts to get into a headspace. It is sensitive to anything illegitimate and illegal. It works as a protection barrier for your life. The word of God is its standard and before an action, temptation, or lie can violate your body or life, your mind, renewed by Scripture, will filter it, and signal that what is at the boundary should not be allowed in because it will bring death instead of life.

Who is responsible for the renewal process? You are. You are responsible for what you allow in based on your knowledge, gained through the word of God. This is why reading the Bible is important!

Often times when people find their lives in a mess, it can be traced back to a simple thought pattern or belief system that they allowed to get into their thinking. Sometimes these thought patterns are even passed on generationally, as at no point has there been a renewal of mind, or gaining of wisdom and truth.

You could have 10,000 pounds in your pocket, but if you don’t know it is there, you have no knowledge of it, so you aren’t going to be able to use it. You can only use what you know you have. If you have no knowledge of the word of God, how can you use it? Jesus said, ‘…you will know the truth and the truth will set you free’ (John 8:32). Yes the truth is there, yes it will set you free, but you have to KNOW it first.

The huge epidemic this generation is facing around poor mental health is evidence in itself that our minds matter. We must be intentional with what we are feeding our heads with. We have a responsibility to steward our minds in truth in order to be able to have strong lives.

‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ (Luke 10:27).
