I’m not sure if you have a dog – if you do, you’ll know exactly what I mean…
Our chocolate Labrador Snoop is a great lover of food. I mean any sort of food, anytime, anywhere.
It’s amazing, that we have kept his weight under control. He loves food!
When I’m eating, he comes and tries to sit at my feet, or gives me those gorgeous brown ‘puppy dog eyes’ that say “please can I have some.” If my husband sees him, he’ll send him packing… however I can’t resist that longing look. I may at first say NO, but then I give in.
It reminds me of the story of the persistent widow in
Luke 18 vs 1-5.
Jesus told them a story showing that it was necessary for them to pray consistently and never quit. He said, “There was once a judge in some city who never gave God a thought and cared nothing for people. A widow in that city kept after him: ‘My rights are being violated. Protect me!’
“He never gave her the time of day. But after this went on and on he said to himself, ‘I care nothing what God thinks, even less what people think. But because this widow won’t quit badgering me, I’d better do something and see that she gets justice—otherwise I’m going to end up beaten black-and-blue by her pounding.’”
She kept coming and asking, he kept saying ‘NO’, however, due to her persistency he gave in!
Notice what verse 1 says
“Jesus told them this story, to teach them it was necessary to pray and not to quit”
If you’re waiting for an answer, if you’re believing for a miracle, if you’re believing for a breakthrough, don’t let the enemy send you packing and tell you to give up.
If we weren’t meant to be persistent like the widow, why would Jesus have told us to be?
Some of us give up too easily – at the first hurdle or at the first ’no’.
Don’t be like that!
Be like my dog.
Be like Jesus taught us to be.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
