Nothing that is happening in your life right now, good or bad, is a surprise to God. We spend a lot of our time being either blind-sided or pleasantly surprised by our circumstances.
This year has not looked the way that I thought it would…at all. I’ve found myself asking God ‘why?’ on more than one occasion. Yet I’ve had to remind myself that He knows what He’s doing.
Two things that I want you to remember are: 1) God does not exist within our perception of space and time – He sees everything beginning to end and 2) He always has a plan.
We can often find ourselves tossed and turned by the waves. This is one of the reasons that our alone time with Him is so important. Even if it’s just five minutes in the loo at work (trust me, I’ve been there). In those moments of turbulence, God is steady. He never changes. He isn’t phased by what’s going on in your world, so when external factors cause you turmoil, remember Psalm 91:1-6:
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
Three things that will lead you into victory:
- Prayer – be specific… but even if a sigh is all you have, God still knows what you need.
- Praise – worship breaks chains. There’s a reason the worshippers were sent ahead during a battle, in the Bible.
- Promises – find a verse of Scripture and speak it out throughout your day.
Spoiler alert: you win. Walk in that knowledge today. You are not a victim, you are a victor.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
