For years I tried to make myself like other people that I felt had it all together and whom I perceived to be popular.
I went through about five personality changes in order to be liked, ranging from becoming one of God’s clowns to becoming Mr. Serious. I was so like one particular person when I spoke, that it was difficult to tell one from the other. All of this was to no avail. I decided to drop the act and become who I was supposed to be – ME.
It takes a certain amount of vulnerability to be who you really are, but it’s worth every bit of the pain.
Why do we work so hard to not be vulnerable?
Why are we so afraid to be who we really are?
Maybe it’s because of the past we’ve come from or the pain of rejection that we’ve experienced? Both of these and many other life experiences teach us to be the masters of disguise.
Is it possible that you think that if people knew who you really were, no one would love you?
Look at the energy we spend hiding our vulnerability to protect ourselves from people that often don’t even matter!
After becoming me, I realised that people actually loved me and accepted me for who I was, far more than when I was doing my best impression of others.
Give yourself permission today to take off the mask and be who God created you to be.
You were born an original — don’t die a copy.
