I’m sure you don’t need me to point this out, but much of our lives, if not all of them, are spent with people. With that in mind, I want to spend as much time as I can with the right kind of people.
The truth is, we don’t have control over who we spend all of our time with. Maybe you’re working with people who you wouldn’t have handpicked… maybe you’re living with people who you wouldn’t have handpicked! But when it comes to the moments we can control, as somebody once said, ‘get around people who celebrate you, not those who tolerate you.’
There are times when I have been around people who have taken from me instead of adding to me, and if you’re not careful, like me, you can grow accustomed to this kind of interaction, concluding that this is just how life rolls…
Maybe today is the day you take back control of your time and who you’re spending it with. Give yourself permission to hang around people who make much of your strengths and little of your weaknesses. I once heard someone say, ‘if people can’t make room for my mistakes, they shouldn’t be with me.’I need those kinds of friends! You need those kinds of friends!
Now if you’re wondering, how do I get these kinds of friends? You become that kind of friend. It starts with me and it starts with you.
Let’s make much of people’s strengths and little of their weaknesses. Let’s be those who create room for others’ mistakes and celebrate rather than tolerate.
As I said to begin with, not all of our lives will be spent with people who bring addition to us, so let’s be sure to create moments with those who do.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
