Recently I was sitting in a traffic jam with my husband, we had driven that same way, maybe for 35 years – the same duel carriageway, going the same way at the same speed. Yet on this occasion we had to unusually stop due to traffic. I looked around at the homes in my view and I noticed threehouses that I had never seen before. I was amazed! I said “I have never seen that before, yet must have driven past it hundreds of times.”
Recently, I watched one of my favourite christmas movies (that I watch every year) and yet saw something different that I hadn’t seen in the 20 or so times I watched it before.
I want to challenge you at the start of a brand new year, to read the Bible again. I have just finished reading it through in one year and seen things I had never seen before. I want to challenge you to take a ‘familiar’ passage, one that you think you may know everything about and re-read it. Challenge yourself to be open and ask God to reveal something new to you again.
God’s word is new every day. It will speak to you in different situations about different things. It has NOW words and it reveals life to those who read it. Take a moment to do something usual and let it turn into something ‘un’ usual. Linger for a moment, follow His leading… you will be refreshed.
Psalm 23. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters. He refreshes my soul.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
