Have you ever heard the phrase “you don’t get because you don’t ask”? Well, guess what? It’s true! You won’t get more dinner if you don’t ask for seconds, you won’t get a discount in a store if you don’t try, you won’t get a refund if you don’t return the item and ask for one and sometimes as a Mom, you may not get a hug if you don’t ask for one!
We have to go through life asking- think about it. Several times a day, we are asking. “Please do this, please go there, please can I have this”. Our lives are made up of ASK.
There are three levels in the Bible; they are ASK, SEEK, KNOCK.
You’ll find them in Matthew 7 v 7. “Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Ask is entry level – bring your requests and ask. If you don’t ask, you won’t get.
Seek is the next level – like in the game “hide and seek’ – you have to make time to actively seeking and not giving up until you find.
Knock is the persistent higher level – keep knocking until the door gets answered.
There are times when my praying has been all three. That’s how it works. Jesus is obviously happy with all three, as He taught us that way.
Is it okay to keep bothering God with my request? Absolutely. Do I need to not give up after one ask? Absolutely. Is it ok to get earnest and persistent? Absolutely.
Some answers may come after one ask…that’s great and it’s refreshing. But if everything was like that, we wouldn’t learn persistence and patience and God’s timing.
Today, be someone who ASKS. Not someone who doesn’t receive because they didn’t.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
