Fresh Hope – 23rd March 2020

Matthew 14:22-33 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. ‘It’s a ghost,’ they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’ ‘Lord, if it’s you,’ Peter replied, ‘tell me to come to you on the water.’ ‘Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’ And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God.’

Whatever you feed, will ultimately grow. Feed your children and they will grow. Feed a plant and it will grow. Feed your dog and yes, it will grow. In fact, the more you feed something, the more it grows.

Get this — Feed your fear and it will grow!

Right now there is very little else to fill your mind with other than the fear that is being dished up daily. Hour after hour, you are being served such massive portions of fear that it’s spreading into everything you do and everything you say.

The word Corona means ‘crown’ and it’s definitely doing its job in more ways than one, as it seeks to be King over your life.

When Peter asked Jesus if he could walk on water, he was simply told “COME”. But then he was distracted by what he saw and what he felt going on around him. It caused him to lose his balance, his footing and his faith. The moment that he allowed fear to feed him, it grew to the point of overwhelming his faith.

Friend, right now don’t let fear cause you to lose the faith or the footing that you started with. You were so full of faith…and then you allowed outward circumstances to become king. Dethrone your fear right now by staying focused on walking forward on God’s word.

Instead of feeding every hour on the latest news, start to worship, get into God’s word. Stand on it. Believe it. Respond by trusting it. Ask yourself right now: what am I feeding myself with today?

Fear makes you sink.

Faith makes you rise.
