Let’s be real, at present, if we haven’t lost our job, we know someone who has. It is a scary time in regards to the future of our finances for many of us. But if we cannot stand on the truths of God during a crisis, when can we?
1. God is well aware of the importance of money in our lives. Jesus talked about money a lot. He is not embarrassed of it or ashamed of it. Money isn’t a bad thing. Money is actually good, but our attitude and approach toward it can be bad and dangerous. This is why Jesus wasn’t taboo in talking of the topic. In fact, money sits at third place in the lineup of topics that Jesus spoke most about! 11 of the 39 parables talk about money! Jesus was well aware that money had the potential to consume our lives. It has incredible influence over our day-to- day job, our thoughts, our worries, our fears, our freedom, and our big decisions and our small decisions. Don’t think that Jesus is not aware or doesn’t care about your present financial situation. He does. He knows it is important and a big part of your life.
2. Some of your deepest heart issues will be revealed in your attitude and approach toward money. If you have trust issues with God, this will manifest in how you handle your money. If you truly believe that He is true to His word, and He is looking after you, then you can rest assured that whatever tomorrow holds, God is your provider.
Matthew 6:25-27, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?’
For many of us in the first world, we never thought the words ‘do not worry about what you will eat’, would ever apply to us! But here we are today scrambling for food on the shop shelves!
Now is the time to put into practise the essence of our faith. Do we really believe that God will give us what we need?
3. God is the master restorer.
God specialises in restoration. He is able to bring back what has been taken from you and restore it ten fold. Zoom out and think big picture. Today may be challenging, but recall that God promises to work all things together for good (Romans 8:28). So if things aren’t good yet, He is not done yet!
All through scripture God has redeemed and restored that which has been taken from His people. ‘I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten’ (Joel 2:25).
Many of the most successful people on the planet have soaring success post crisis. The answer is that they had an attitude where they learnt from their mistakes, and rebuilt from the ground up, with a resilient spirit – the spirit of an overcomer. As children of God, the nature of an overcomer is in our DNA.
Romans 8:37, ‘In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us’.
1 John 5:4, ‘For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world’.
James 1:12. ‘Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life’.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
