Fresh Hope – 10th April 2020

I’ve heard a quote from the film ‘Ace in the Hole’ (disclaimer: I’ve never seen it): ‘Bad news sells best, because good news is no news.’

Now more than ever, this is all our news channels feature. Fear and anxiety are flooding people’s minds because they are constantly bombarded with bad news and uncertainty.

Perhaps it would be undignified for the news to report on people enjoying the sunshine or taking the time to connect with old friends, new friends or those somewhere in between. However it is our duty as Christians to share the hope of Jesus with everyone in our world.

We may be divided physically but we are unified in Jesus.
We stand steadfast on His Word.
We stand united in His promises.

Jesus carried the weight of sin, fear and darkness all the way to the cross. And there, he uttered the three words that shattered the world as it was.
‘It is finished.’

His work on Earth was done. The saviour of the world, successfully saved the world.

Whatever it is that you are facing today, it is finished.

He defeated the evil that was, that is and that is to come. Those three words put the devil in his place. Those three words broke through the darkness.

This is the good news of Easter. This is the time we celebrate the freedom we have (John 8:36), the unconditional love we experience (1 John 4:10) and the peace that only Jesus can bring (John 14:27).

Share the good news, because good news IS newsworthy.
