A group of businessmen went to a remote mountain retreat for a weekend of leadership training. Expecting graphs, statistics and pep talks, they were completely surprised when their boss, Mr Clarkson, asked them to trade their laptops for spades. “I want you to dig a ditch one meter wide and half a meter deep around the perimeter of my cabin”, he said. And with those words, he disappeared inside it.
At first, nobody said anything. But soon their silence turned into questioning. Then they started arguing about the exacting measurement which they felt didn’t really matter too much. They complained about having risen to the top of the corporate ladder, only to be forced to do manual labour.
Finally, John turned to the others in the group and said, “who cares why he told us to do it – let’s just do it and let’s do it with a good attitude. With those words, the cabin door flew open and the boss reappeared. “Gentlemen”, he said, as he grabbed John’s hand, “I’d like you to meet your new vice-president.”
There are three things that we can learn from this story today:
1-When God doesn’t explain something fully, it’s because you don’t need the details.
2-When God doesn’t speak, it’s because He’s watching, waiting and working things out.
3-When He tests you on one level, it’s because He’s getting ready to take you to the next.
So don’t question what He’s doing today…just obey Him!
Deuteronomy 8:2 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
