I recently saw a billboard advertisement for an insurance company with the slogan, ‘FREE, NOT FREEISH’.
Many of us have come to learn that nothing in life is really free. ‘What’s the catch?’ is our initial response if something is given away. Is anything really no-strings-attached free?
When Jesus said, ‘Whom the son sets free is free indeed’ (John 8:36), he was not saying, ‘whomthe son sets free is freeish’… he was declaring that who Jesus has set free is COMPLETELY and utterly free!
Can I remind us today that if Jesus has set you free, then you are free indeed? There are no strings attached. This tells us that true freedom is found only through Jesus.
Humanity is hungry for freedom. It is within human nature to want freedom. But anything outside of Jesus will only make you ‘freeish’, not truly free.
It is in relationship with Jesus Christ, through abiding in His Word, and being His disciple that we find the freedom we have been looking for.
Don’t think that because you have been a Christian for many years that you don’t need to be reminded of your freedom in Christ. Even seasoned Christians can too easily fall into the trap of believing that they need to earn their freedom or behave their way into freedom. You don’t set yourself free. The son sets you free. He is the only one that can do that. You can only make yourself ‘freeish’, the son makes you free indeed.
If there is any area of your life that is not feeling free. If you are only feeling ‘freeish’ then can I encourage you to go to the one who sets you free indeed? Jesus.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
