We have a bird house in our garden. I bought it a couple of years ago to encourage birds to nest in it. I was told, that it would take time for the birds to feel happy and comfortable with making it their nest. This summer, much to our horror, it has been occupied by wasps.
I ‘googled‘ this unfortunate invasion, only to find that it is quite common for wasps to ‘take over’ the bird house. I suppose that while the birds are ‘thinking about it’, wasps just dive in and take residence. Getting rid of a wasps nest (as you may know) is not easy. I can be angry and annoyed at those wasps, but it doesn’t make any difference. It needs proper attention.
I was thinking, as I often do in the garden, about how God works. My heart, just like that bird house, is made for good things. If I don’t keep it filled with the right things, like His love, His joy and His peace, then sooner or later, other things will take residence there. Like fear, worry, anger, jealousy, bitterness, hatred and the like. Then to get rid of them, is not so easy.
This week my husband was mowing the lawn and hit the bird house with the mower.. out came the wasps and stung him! He said it really hurt!
If you don’t deal with stuff that has taken residence in your heart, stuff that is illegally there, it won’t just hurt you, it will hurt those who ‘bump’ into you also. Be careful my friend what you ALLOW into your heart.
Keep your heart for the residence of God and His Holy Spirit…which equals good things.
Keep invaders away at all costs.
