How many times do we pray “Lord, I want to be more like you”, only to not like some of the challenges, times and seasons we go through, that God allows, in order for Him to change us?
Two things: I have to be humble enough and secure enough to be willing to change.
Humble – because that often means saying ‘sorry’ because I was wrong. Owning my stuff, even when I mess up and admitting I need to change.
Secure – to trust in Him enough that He knows what He is doing.
People will challenge us in life – our spouse, a parent, a teacher, a friend, a pastor, a leader. Your reply will determine whether or not you will move forwards or backwards. Whether or not you are willing to change.
So when God challenges me, what is my reply?
What happens when God says “bless someone with that…” What’s your reply? Is it… “Why? … don’t you know God that they have more than me?… I blessed someone last month Lord!” OR is it “Okay God, no problem, I know if you’re wanting to get something to me, then you’re wanting to get something through me.”
You see, our response to a challenge is important. If you pray the prayer I mentioned at the start, which is “Lord, make me more like you” then you are going to be challenged. Because challenges are what make us (challenges can also break us). If I want to be a successful athlete, my coach will challenge me. I may not like it, but he’s my coach, he’s taking me somewhere. I hired him for a reason.
Today, if you’re asking to be more like Jesus (which I hope you are) then get ready for the challenge, because they will come and then get ready to respond well.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
