We are in the most unprecedented of times in so many ways. A word used over and over in the last six months.
Not only are we facing unique circumstances, but the biggest problem seems to be the ever increasing division in society on the solution to the issues, whether COVID, race relations or other divisive ideologies.
In 1 Kings 18, we read about Elijah addressing the people in another unprecedented moment in history when a famine was risking the lives of an entire nation. Again there was a division in the Lord’s chosen people on the best solution of either following God or the false prophets of Baal. We read in verse 21:
Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”But the people said nothing.
This is the same challenge to us today and we can’t afford to ‘say nothing’. Is Jesus Christ the way the truth and the life, or isn’t he? Is Jesus the only way to the father or isn’t he? Is he the creator and author of life or isn’t He? He is our reward and portion and our very meaning of existence or he isn’t!
Let’s be encouraged today that we can call on his name and he will answer us! Let’s be encouraged today that because of our faith in him, we get to be called children of the living God! He is the answer the world desperately needs and he wants us to be the carrier of this message.
Whatever you face today, whatever challenges you face, let’s make sure we don’t waver between two camps.
2 Timothy 2:4 | NIV No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.
Let’s not compromise our faith by getting entangled in politics and external circumstances, but let’s be resolute in our internal conviction that there isn’t a secular solution to the world’s problems, but that his name is Jesus! Let’s remember we carry this treasure within us which is a hope for all mankind!
Let’s not become fearful and fret, getting involved in trying to build a secular solution, let’s stick to what we have been called to be, salt and light for our generation, a beacon of hope pointing to the true way, Jesus Christ!
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
