I’ve been looking again at the book of Daniel. I love how he ‘stood out’ for God. When he was summoned by the King to be trained in the Babylonia ways, Daniel decided he wasn’t going to be like the others.
No, he was going to stand out…not by his fine clothes, but by another way. They wanted Daniel to eat the King’s fine food and drink the King’s fine wine, to fatten him up. But Daniel was having none of it. He only wanted fresh fruit, vegetables and water to drink. After 10 days, he looked better than all the rest of them!
You see, there are times you have to set yourself apart, not go with the flow, go against the normal and do what you know is right.
In a world that’s quite chaotic at the moment, the normal is probably fear, confusion and panic. Not for God’s children. We should be setting ourselves apart and showing a different way.
Don’t let the ways of the world dictate to you how you should be. No, instead, set yourself apart and you’ll come out better than the rest. In vs 15-16 – he not only looked better and was healthier, but in vs 18-21 – his gifting was also 10 times better.
It’s easy to go with the flow, accept the King’s food… when actually it may be time for you to make a stand and take a stand and say “no” this is how I’m going to act… this is what I’m going to say, and this is what I’m believing and standing for.
When you make a stand against the ‘norm’ you watch GOD work in YOUR life. You will experience favour (like Daniel) blessing (like Daniel) protection (like Daniel) promotion (like Daniel). When I’m set apart for God, I’ll come out better than the rest!
What you may have to do, may be a sacrifice but the blessing will far outweigh what we give up.
Sacrifice (obedience) will always bring blessing.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
