When I got married my name changed.
I took on my husband’s name, Cartwright.
(nowhere near as cute or interesting as Mukoyogo, but way easier to pronounce).
When I fell in love with Jesus, I became a Christian and entered into a relationship with the Creator of the Universe Himself, God (aka Yahweh).
In the book ‘God has a name’ by John Mark Comer, he helps to illustrate the incredible privilege it is to be known and loved by the living God and in so doing helps us to recognise the true identity and name by which we should live under.
God ‘Yahweh’ is locked in a relationship with us. There is a symbiotic relationship between Yahweh’s name, his reputation and how we the people of God live.
As God’s people we are called by his name. We are in an incredible marriage-like, family-like relationship with the God of the universe. With that comes a staggering responsibility to mirror and mimic what God is like to the world!
He is after a godly people who are like the God they worship.
A people compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
A people who live in the tension of mercy and justice.
The above describes the nature of God s character, attributes that we who follow Jesus should desire to emulate.
How are you doing on that front?
Take a look again at the description of the nature of God, as he describes himself in Exodus 34 v5-7.
You are a living breathing example to the world of what God is like,
You are a house of God,
You carry his name,
Everywhere you go,
In all that you do,
You are His!
And he calls you Beloved!
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
