Where is your focus? You may be thinking ‘well, we’re only a week into the year, so it’s mainly work’. Or maybe it’s on new habits you’re trying to form. Or maybe it’s the news, as you’re keeping an eye on what is happening (which is a lot) in the world.
The dictionary defines ‘focus’ as ‘the centre of interest or activity’.
Therefore, when you focus on something, your attention, your time, your energy, your thoughts become dedicated to it, for a length of time.
Philippians 4:8-9 onwards teaches us something important about focusing our thoughts:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
With so much going on and the busyness of life pulling us in several different directions, it can be easy to become distracted. But what you focus on, you feed. Let’s use the wisdom of God’s word to refocus today. Right at the end of those two verses is a promise – that when we train our thoughts on good things, God brings His peace.
