Fresh Hope – 16th January 2021

Please read and inwardly digest, 2 Kings 20 1-5.
Here are the verses for you:
‘In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death.
The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.”
And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: 5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.’

Wow! He had just been told he was going to die.
That’s quite final, maybe that’s the end of your hope…
BUT when all hope was gone for Hezekiah, his one hope was still in The Lord.

Here’s three things that I think will help you today as you read and meditate on these few verses:

1. Don’t focus on the problem, it only magnifies the problem.

He didn’t (like most of us would), focus on the fact he was about to die. Verse 2 “he turned his face to the wall and prayed.”
Don’t focus on the problem, just on Jesus.
Focusing on Jesus diminishes the problem.
I love the old song…“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”

The strength of his prayer was only in Jesus. Put your focus on the one who is able.

2. Hezekiah prayed once
One prayer was all it took! Sometimes we pray for days, months and even years BUT know this: God’s perfect timing will always kick in.
God has the ability to answer your prayer after once.
Trust in His timing.

3. When you are weeping and praying, God is watching and listening.
God hears you immediately. He sees your heartache, He sees your tears, He knows your innermost thoughts.
BUT, don’t be so focused on the problem that you forget to pray.
God is right there.

Hezekiah did not die there and then! God heard his prayer and answered!

God added 15 years to his life.
It’s never over, until God says it’s over.
